About 10,000 students participated in the initial stage of the Olympiad. Within the framework of this stage, a media tour was organized to secondary school No. 18 named after Mikayil Mushfig in Baku to watch the Olympics. Officials of the Ministry of Science and Education, Institute of Education, MPs, members of the West Azerbaijan Community and media representatives took part in the mediation.
A total of 975 students participated in the Olympiad centers organized in Baku. Based on the results of the preliminary stage, the students who will participate in the regional stage of the Olympiad will be determined.
The final stage of the Olympics is planned to be held in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in June.
It should be noted that the Olympiad is carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Education of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Institute of Education, West Azerbaijan Community and Nakhchivan State University.
The purpose of organizing the Olympiad is to educate students about the history, geography, culture, literature, prominent public figures, historical figures, toponyms, and folklore of Western Azerbaijan and ensure in-depth study of knowledge.
Vice-Rector for International Relations of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Doctor of Philology, Professor Mahira Huseynova headed the expert group of the "Return to Western Azerbaijan" Olympiad.
Professors of the Faculty of Philology of ADPU participated in the media tour organized to watch the district (city) stage of the "Return to Western Azerbaijan" Olympiad. Also, ADPU vice-rector for international relations prof. Mahira Huseynova and the head of the scientific-organizational department prof. Ibrahim Bayramov also participated.
The olympiad, in which nearly 10,000 students participated in the initial stage, is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Education of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Institute of Education, the West Azerbaijan Community and the Nakhchivan State University.
Note that prof. Mahira Huseynova suggested that the history, geography, literature, folklore, and traditions of Western Azerbaijan should be reflected in the new educational programs, and then they should be included in high school textbooks.
