Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, reiterated his country’s commitment, as the host of COP29 in Baku, to global solidarity in combating climate change during a seminar on ‘Climate-Compatible Education’ in Islamabad.

Ambassador Farhadov said that Azerbaijan hoped to “lead by example,” highlighting the creation of climate-smart cities throughout Azerbaijan as part of development strategy. He stressed that educated populations are more resilient and better equipped to face climate challenges.

Other speakers at the seminar included Romina Khurshid Alam, the Pakistani Prime Minister's Coordinator for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination; Dr. Abid Qayium Suleri, Executive Director at the Sustainable Development Policy Institute; and UNICEF Deputy Country Representative, Sharmeela Rasool.

The speakers warned that by 2050, 1.2 billion children worldwide could be affected by climate change if urgent action is not taken. The seminar, part of the pre-COP29 series in Pakistan, addressed climate change challenges, alarming statistics, and the need for immediate adaptation measures.
