“Islamophobia today is a serious and systemic discrimination issue that contradicts the fundamental principles of democracy – equality, freedom of religion, and justice. This problem is not merely prejudice but also a dangerous trend that fosters discrimination against Muslims in legislation, the media, and public perception,” said Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre, during his speech at the international conference titled “Concept and Practice in the Current Global Context” held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt.
According to him, the joint projects involving international collaboration, awareness campaigns, media, and youth can serve as an effective tool in addressing this matter.
He also spoke about Azerbaijan’s efforts in combatting Islamophobia, emphasizing that the country actively participates in international initiatives and hosts major conferences and forums to address this issue. He further stressed that Azerbaijan plays an active role both regionally and internationally in promoting respect for various religions and cultures.
Ravan Hasanov specifically underlined that the fight against Islamophobia is not only a matter for Muslims, but a broader defense of human rights and democracy.
