Baku hosts 58th session of ICDO Executive Council

The 58th session of the Executive Council of the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) has commenced in Baku.

The two-day session brings together heads of emergency management agencies from ICDO member states.

In his opening remarks, Colonel General Kamaladdin Heydarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations, noted that Azerbaijan, which is undergoing dynamic development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, has hosted many prestigious international events in recent years, with the ICDO Executive Council session being among them.

The minister highlighted the progress Azerbaijan has made in the field of emergency management and wished the participants success in their work.

In their speeches, Alexander Kurenkov, President of the ICDO Executive Council and Minister of Civil Defence, Emergencies and Disaster Relief of the Russian Federation, and Roman Lapin, Acting Secretary-General of the ICDO, emphasized the importance of the session and the challenges currently facing the organization.

The participants reviewed the implementation of decisions from the 57th session of the ICDO Executive Council and heard a report from Roman Lapin on the organization’s recent efforts.

The session will continue with discussions on the organization’s financial and administrative reports, medium-term development priorities, strategic goals and activities, an action plan to enhance international cooperation, and the adoption of key decisions, including the selection of the theme for World Civil Defence Day 2027.
