On April 3, Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with a Ugandan delegation led by Oryem Henry Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation.
The sides discussed in detail the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Uganda. The officials hailed the rapid development of relations over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with Uganda and African countries. The minister highlighted the importance of leveraging the existing potential to expand cooperation with Uganda.
The parties also reviewed cooperation opportunities in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism, and education.
Minister Bayramov praised the opening of Public Service Centers operating based on the Azerbaijan’s “ASAN Khidmet model” in Uganda.
The sides also stressed the importance of promoting investment opportunities, expanding ties between business circles, and implementing joint projects.
The meeting also featured discussions on cooperation within international organizations.
The foreign ministers underscored the significance of mutual support on multilateral platforms, including the mutual benefits of collaborations within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), including the Movement's chairmanship institution and the Troika mechanism.
Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Ugandan students benefited from educational opportunities at Azerbaijani higher education institutions within the framework of international scholarship programs provided by Azerbaijan, including the program for NAM member countries.
The meeting also addressed regional and international security issues, as well as global challenges.
The Azerbaijani FM briefed the on the past conflict, the current situation in the region during the post-conflict period, reconstruction and restoration efforts, as well as steps to advance the peace agenda.
The two also explored other bilateral and regional matters of mutual concern.
Subsequently, the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and India held political consultations, led by Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Oryem Henry Okello, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation.
