"AzInTelecom" LLC, under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, has begun preparatory work for the construction of two new data centers in Azerbaijan. The future data centers have received the "TIER 3 Design" certificate, which sets international quality standards for stability and reliability.
This prestigious certificate, issued by the Uptime Institute in the USA, is recognized globally for its assurance of reliable data exchange, stability, and uninterrupted service. "AzInTelecom" LLC is the first institution in the South Caucasus region to obtain a "TIER 3" certificate. Both existing data centers, located in Baku and Yevlakh, also hold "TIER 3" and "TIER 3 Design" certificates. To date, 115 government agencies have fully or partially migrated their information systems to these data centers.
The need for new data centers arises from the increasing demand for reliable cloud services, the digitization of government services and management processes, and the growing volume of processed data. In response, "AzInTelecom" LLC, with the involvement of an international consulting company, held discussions with approximately 150 state institutions. Based on the information gathered, a concept document was prepared to meet the projected demand for the next 10 years.
The new data centers, to be built in the Absheron and Hajigabul regions, are expected to significantly contribute to Azerbaijan's digitization efforts. Critical infrastructure systems in these new data centers will be reserved in a special mode, and active equipment will be provided with high-level cooling pipelines, similar to the current data centers. This will ensure continuity of service during technical inspections and repairs. Furthermore, the optimization of energy use and energy distribution equipment will enable the centers to operate with high environmental sensitivity.
The construction of these new data centers is anticipated to enhance the provision and organization of digital public services, reduce costs associated with purchasing and maintaining separate cloud infrastructure for institutions, improve Azerbaijan's international digitization ranking, facilitate information exchange between institutions, and promote the analysis of large volumes of data.
