On February 17, a new group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) embarked on a journey to the rebuilt city of Jabrayil. The families, who had been temporarily residing in dormitories, sanatoriums, children's camps, unfinished buildings, and administrative facilities across various regions of the country, set out from the Garadagh district of Baku to return to their ancestral homeland.
According to Report, this phase of the repatriation process saw 42 families, comprising 205 individuals, making their way back to Jabrayil. The opportunity for a voluntary, safe, and dignified return home after 30 years of displacement came as a result of the brilliant victory achieved by the Azerbaijani army under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, during the 2020 Patriotic War.
The residents of Jabrayil expressed their gratitude to the head of state and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for the comprehensive state care they received. They also thanked the brave Azerbaijani army for liberating their lands from occupation and wished for the souls of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this noble cause to rest in peace.
Currently, around 30,000 people, including former IDPs, reside in the Karabakh and East Zangazur regions. This figure also includes individuals working on various projects in these areas, employees of local branches of state institutions, and staff members of reopened healthcare, education, culture, tourism, industry, and energy facilities.
