Chairman of Caucasus Muslims Office: Israeli-Palestinian conflict should be resolved on the basis of “two-state solution"

On August 25, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO), met with Ahmed Metani, the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the Sheikhulislam highlighted the ties of friendship and brotherhood that unite the peoples of Azerbaijan and Palestine. He noted that close relations with Palestine had always existed during his tenure, recalling his meetings with Yasser Arafat, the late Palestinian leader, within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Highlighting Azerbaijan’s active participation in international events related to Palestine, as well as the support conference organized in the country, the CMO chairman stated that Azerbaijan has always supported the position of the Palestinian people on international platforms. Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade said he supports resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the “two-state solution” and relevant UN resolutions.

Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade expressed his deep regret over the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza and said he prays for a peaceful resolution of the problem. He wished the new ambassador success in his diplomatic mission, expressing confidence that during his tenure he would contribute to the strengthening of relations between the two nations and the development of intergovernmental cooperation.

Ahmed Metani conveyed the greetings of the Grand Mufti of Palestine Muhammad Hussein to the religious leader of Azerbaijan and expressed his readiness to facilitate a meeting between the religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Palestine during his diplomatic mission.

Later, the ambassador shared his views on the situation in Gaza. Touching upon the upcoming OIC Summit to be hosted by Azerbaijan next year, the diplomat said he hoped that important decisions regarding the Palestinian issue would be adopted at this meeting.
