Romanian media, including the "G4Media" news portal, has published an article highlighting Türkiye’s launching the construction of a strategic project that will provide a new railway connection with Baku during an official ceremony in the city of Igdir.
The article mentions that the railway line, originating in Kars, will pass through Armenia, continue through the Zangezur corridor to Nakhchivan, and then proceed to Baku.
With an annual capacity of 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of cargo, the project will require the construction of 5 tunnels, 3 viaducts, and 10 bridges. The total project cost is estimated at €2.4 billion, with financing to be secured through international loans. Completion is planned within 4-5 years.
Azerbaijan will handle the reconstruction of 150 kilometers of railway in Nakhchivan, as well as the laying of an additional 20-kilometer new line to provide border access.
