Another meeting of the Working Group on environmental issues of the Interdepartmental Center, operating under the Coordination Headquarters for addressing the issues in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan in a centralized manner, has been held in the city of Zangilan.
Representatives of the relevant state agencies, as well as members of the Special Representative Office of the Azerbaijani President in Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan districts, which are included in East Zangezur economic region, the Special Representative Office of the President of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories of the Karabakh Economic Region (except Shusha district), the Special Representative Office in Lachin district included in Zangezur economic region, as well as representatives of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in the Karabakh Economic Region, the Restoration, Construction and Management Service N1 and N2 in the East Zangezur Economic Region attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on issues related to the restoration and construction works carried out in Gubadli, Jabrayil and Zangilan districts, which are included in East Zangezur economic region, with a focus on ensuring environmental sustainability in the implementation of the projects.
The participants discussed the works accomplished in the Jabrayil district within the collaboration between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in forestry, the ongoing projects related to the reconstruction of drinking and sewerage systems in the Zangilan and Jabrayil districts, the restoration of kahriz (underground water pipes) in the Jabrayil district and the potential utilization of these systems in water resources management.
The minimization of environmental impact in the implementation of the road infrastructure projects and the effective management of mineral deposits, the mine clearance initiatives carried out as part of environmental assessment and landscaping projects in the liberated territories, solid waste management and the environmental assessment of projects implemented in the East Zangezur economic region were also in the spotlight at the meeting.
