From March 2024, air and sea borders of the Schengen zone will be abolished for Romanian citizens, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu wrote on social networks, Report informs.

“After 13 years, Romania will finally enter Schengen. We have a political agreement on this matter. From March next year, Romanians will be able to take advantage of the Schengen area by air and sea,” he noted.

He added that this means that the port of Constanta will increase its importance.

“I am also convinced that in 2024 we will close negotiations on the land border. We have been working on this national project for a very long time,” he added.

The Council of the European Union at the level of heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in December last year agreed on Croatia’s accession to Schengen, but postponed decisions on Bulgaria and Romania. Vienna blocked the admission of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen zone.
