“In Azerbaijan's energy strategy, the export of electricity produced from renewable and green energy sources is one of the country’s core priorities. It is no coincidence that the enhancement of renewable energy utilization in the country`s energy sector was defined by President Ilham Aliyev as a key priority. The country intends to increase its renewable power capacity to 30% by 2030 and diversify its existing energy system to become a leader in green energy,” MP Khanlar Fatiyev told AZERTAC.
Describing Azerbaijan as one of the countries with high potential for renewable energy sources, Khanlar Fatiyev emphasized that Karabakh and East Zangezur will become green energy zones.
“The primary goals of the economic policy implemented by our state in recent years include reducing dependency on the non-oil sector and strengthening the role of renewable energy sources to ensure energy security. To achieve these goals, Azerbaijan is preparing for a green energy transition. The projects implemented in this area and the confident steps towards the established targets have not gone unnoticed by the global community. The selection of Baku as the host city for COP29 also demonstrates that Azerbaijan has identified itself as a country addressing climate change on a global scale," the MP noted.
Khanlar Fatiyev underscored that hosting COP29 would play a major role in the country's transition to green energy, as well as in achieving its goals regarding the development of renewable energy sources. He also emphasized that COP29 will contribute to the transfer of technology from developed countries, primarily focused on green energy.
“Thus, Azerbaijan will contribute to humanity by reducing carbon emissions through electricity produced from renewable and green energy,” MP Khanlar Fatiyev added.
