International Conference on “Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future” gets underway in Zangilan

The 3rd International Conference on “Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future” kicked off today in the city of Zangilan.

Co-organized by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the conference brought together more than 300 representatives from 75 countries – senior officials of a number of countries, the leadership of the UN headquarters, representatives of influential international organizations, institutions operating in the field of demining, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.

The conference aims to draw the world’s attention to the landmine problem facing Azerbaijan, strengthen the international partnership in the field of humanitarian demining, as well as discuss ways of mobilizing financial resources for mitigating environmental impact of landmines and other explosive remnants of war.

Addressing the conference, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev read out President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s address to the event participants.

The conference will wrap up on May 31.
