Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met on Thursday with Ali Saleh Abdullah Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council of Bahrain.
During the meeting, the sides hailed the successful organization of the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Baku, highlighting the importance of cooperation within the framework of APA. They described the Assembly as an important platform promoting enhanced cooperation amongst the Asian countries. The parties also hailed the favorable opportunities APA provided for interaction and intensification of contacts between the member states’ legislative authorities.
The sides praised the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Bahrain. They noted that shared religious and cultural values between the two peoples contribute to successful cooperation between the two countries across various fields. The parties emphasized that Azerbaijan and Bahrain maintain constructive cooperation within international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
The sides also deliberated the collaboration within international parliamentary organizations, including the activities of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, established at the initiative of the Azerbaijani President.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova, fondly recalling her working visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the earlier meetings held in Bahrain, underscored that there are ample opportunities for further expanding interparliamentary ties between the two countries. The Speaker underlined that reciprocal visits and close contacts could play a significant role in this regard.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
