Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the State Secretary of the Slovenian Foreign Ministry Marko Štucin, Report informs, referring to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, as well as regional and international security issues.
Stressing the meeting held with his counterpart Tanja Fajon within the framework of the 31st meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of such contacts in terms of contributing to the discussion of the development prospects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and the importance of developing dialogue in this regard.
They also noted that Azerbaijan was represented at the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia last year at the Deputy Foreign Minister level, recognizing the Forum's significance for the exchange of views among state officials, think tanks, and media representatives.
The meeting underscored the necessity of utilizing existing cooperation opportunities in energy security, trade, business, transport, and communications, particularly Azerbaijan's strategic position in the Central Corridor, which encourages taking advantage of these opportunities.
The discussion also covered educational and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, with a special mention of Azerbaijanis' contributions to Slovenia's liberation during World War II, especially the legendary Mehdi Huseynzade (nicknamed Mikhaylo), as a foundation for the modern connection between the two nations.
Bayramov provided detailed information about the situation and realities in the region during the post-conflict period, including extensive reconstruction efforts, construction in liberated territories, and ongoing demining operations, highlighting humanitarian demining as a new area of cooperation.
Speaking about the current state of the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization and peace agenda, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that despite the progress and agreed provisions, the ongoing territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Constitution of Armenia, as well as the rapid armament of this country in the spirit of revanchism, pose a threat to regional peace-building.
Both parties exchanged views on other mutual interest issues during the meeting.
