Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Thursday with Zakia Ighil, newly appointed Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the country.
During the meeting, the discussions revolved around the prospects for development of the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Algeria, as well as regional and global matters.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the Algerian ambassador on her appointment and wished her success in her diplomatic mission.
Highlighting that this year marks 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Azerbaijani FM pointed out a pivotal role of reciprocal visits and intensive political dialogue in developing bilateral cooperation over the years. They underscored prospects for development of cooperation in economic, energy security, humanitarian and other domains, stressing the importance of political consultations in this regard.
They emphasized the significance of continuing mutual support and bilateral cooperation within regional and international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The Azerbaijani top diplomat briefed the Algerian ambassador about the current situation in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War, the realities and challenges of the post-conflict period, the large-scale restoration works underway in the liberated territories, as well as the rapprochement and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He expressed gratitude to the Algerian side for supporting the norms and principles of international law, especially Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty during both the former conflict and the post-conflict periods.
