Boosting aid to Azerbaijan in demining discussed in Geneva

The issue of boosting aid to Azerbaijan in mine clearance was discussed at the meeting of the Mine Action Support Group (MASG), which is the coordination format of donor countries in the field of mine clearance, on April 29, 2024, in Geneva, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The representatives of Azerbaijan’s MFA and ANAMA, who participated in the meeting, informed the participants about the extent of the devastation and landmine problem caused by Armenia in the country, mine victims, achievements and challenges in demining, necessary foreign aid, and Azerbaijan's international activities related to the landmine problem.

The importance of providing adequate foreign support for the return of Azerbaijanis to their native land, for restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories, and for the elimination of the landmine problem, which directly affects the safety of the population, was brought to attention.

It was emphasized during the meeting that this aid can help progress, peace, and reconciliation as a condition of humanitarian solidarity.

At the event, opinions were exchanged about one or another aspect of the landmine problem in Azerbaijan, and it was agreed to continue the discussions in order to solve the problems on this issue.
