The bilateral relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan have been on a consistent upward trajectory over the last 15 years, Political scientist from Serbia Stefan Antic told Report.

“Shared challenges, such as threats to territorial integrity and the imperative to devise innovative solutions for the European energy crisis since 2022, have been some of the critical drivers of such trends. Mutual diplomatic support between Serbia and Azerbaijan has quickly translated into diverse forms of cooperation. This encompasses cooperation in infrastructure development, joint initiatives in energy and cutting-edge technologies, cultural exchange, and a remarkable tenfold expansion of trade since the early 2010s,” he noted.

“A crucial moment, in my view, occurred in November 2022, when the two countries signed seven bilateral agreements, each directly impacting economic development. Serbia’s initiation of an interconnector to a pipeline in Bulgaria has finally allowed it access to Azerbaijani gas, thus deepening ties and expanding energy collaboration.”
