Challenging the Azerbaijani delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will not have positive consequences for the organization itself, Oleksiy Goncharenko, a member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, told Report.

“I did not support this decision at the assembly,” he said.

Goncharenko explained that the decision will be made first by the Monitoring Committee, and then finally approved at a meeting of the Assembly. The main argument against Azerbaijan is that the country did not invite a PACE mission to observe the presidential elections scheduled for early February.

According to him, it is quite hard to predict the outcome of the situation: “The situation is really difficult.”
