Azerbaijan is poised to host perfectly next year's COP29 climate change summit, the Ambassador

Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sweden Zaur Ahmadov has given an interview to the country's Diplomatic World Sweden portal.

 

Shedding light on the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be hosted by Azerbaijan in 2024, the Ambassador highlighted that Azerbaijan, which plays the role of a bridge between Europe and Asia, is poised to perfectly organize this prestigious international event.

 

In the interview, the diplomat provided details about the inaugural preparatory meeting for COP29, led by President Ilham Aliyev. He highlighted Azerbaijan's independent policy, commitment to international law, and its successful track record in organizing significant global events, such as the International Astronautical Congress. These factors, he noted, reflect the substantial trust the international community places in Azerbaijan.

 

The ambassador also mentioned to the steps taken by Azerbaijan, a country rich in oil and natural gas resources, to develop green energy initiatives and green transition, which will ensure the goal of obtaining 30 percent of its energy from the renewable sources by 2030.

 

The diplomat underlined that the decision on Azerbaijan’s hosting the COP29 came amid joint steps taken by Armenia and Azerbaijan to normalize relations, and highlighted the importance of regional partnership and sustainable peace for timely solution of climate change problem.
