"As a result of its military aggression against Azerbaijan, during the almost 30-year occupation period, as well as in the following years, there are numerous mines and unexploded ammunition in our territories in the Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur regions, and the other side still does not want to provide accurate information about their maps and schemes."

XQ reports that Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), said this during her speech at the round table on "Protection of persons with disabilities and landmine victims in Azerbaijan".

According to him, according to statistical data, between November 10, 2020, the end of the Patriotic War, which resulted in the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from occupation, until now, 65 people, mostly civilians, were killed as a result of a mine explosion, and 272 people received various degrees of injuries: "In total, from 1991 until today, 3416 people have been registered victims of landmines, including 357 children and 38 women."

The ombudsman said that the global mine terrorism, which caused numerous casualties, serious injuries and thousands of people's disabilities, seriously hindered the large-scale construction and reconstruction works carried out in the liberated areas, as well as a just and sustainable peace, and the safe return of the former internally displaced persons to their native lands. continues to slow down the process: "Finally, once again, I would like to express my gratitude to the representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan for effective cooperation with the Ombudsman institution and active participation in the organization of today's round table, and I wish success in the work of the event!".
