Azerbaijan, being an innovator, will achieve great success in the use of both traditional energy and renewable energy sources, Brenda Shaffer, a professor at the Naval Postgraduate School (US) and a member of the American Political Science Association, told Report.
"I think Azerbaijan has been always an innovator and very, as we heard today from the president of SOCAR, having a very realistic approach to energy," she noted.
"So I think Azerbaijan is going to be very successful in harnessing both traditional energy and renewable energy. The country has been blessed with very rich in fossil fuels and oil and natural gas, but also very rich prospects for wind and solar, and probably the best policy is when you harness all the available energy," she said.
"Many countries that go for heavy on renewables end up balancing it with heavy on coal. And then they undermine everything they've accomplished in renewables because they have high pollution and high emissions from coal. Azerbaijan will present a model of high-end natural gas and high-end renewables, which is much cleaner in terms of pollution and emissions, and I think that's an important model for the world to look at," she added.
