In 2024, Azerbaijan’s national team demonstrated outstanding results in the International Informatics Olympiads, earning a total of nine medals. Competing in prestigious global competitions, students showcased advanced programming and problem-solving skills, securing one gold, three silver, and five bronze medals.
Since 2017, within the collaboration framework established between the Ministry of Science and Education, the Institute of Education, and Azercell, the schoolchildren have been receiving specialized trainings in preparation for the Informatics Olympiads. Also, for the past three years, the national team of young female students has been receiving targeted training for the European Girls’ Informatics Olympiad with an aim to further encourage female participation in IT. Notably, in 2024, at the competition held in the Netherlands, Azerbaijani female participants secured two medals.
The program also includes intensive training camps designed to support the next generation of IT and ICT specialists. These camps provide students from Baku and various regions of the country with hands-on experience in algorithmic problem-solving, exposure to advanced trends, and opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. Structured in alignment with international Olympiad standards, these sessions ensure participants across different age groups are well-prepared for global competitions.
In 2024, Azerbaijani students competed in several high-profile events, including the International Zhautykov Olympiad (Kazakhstan), Info(1)Cup Programming Contest (Romania), International Autumn Tournament in Informatics (Bulgaria), Central-European Olympiad in Informatics (Czech Republic), European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (Moldova), International Olympiad in Informatics (Egypt), and International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (Saudi Arabia).
It should be noted that to date, the Azerbaijani national team has won 84 medals in various international programming Olympiads across different age groups.
