Chess Association of Turkic-Speaking Countries established in Budapest

The International Chess Federation's General Assembly convened for its last meeting on the last day of the 45th World Chess Olympiad in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.

During the meeting, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation proposed the establishment of a special institution to strengthen cooperation and relations between Turkic-speaking countries in the field of chess.

In her remarks, Ilaha Gadimova, General Secretary of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, highlighted the importance of establishing a joint association of Turkic-speaking countries and informed about the main goals of the future organization. The proposal put to a vote at the General Assembly of FIDE was unanimously accepted.

The Chess Association of Turkic-Speaking Countries was established with the first members of the association being Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

At the end of the meeting, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich met with the heads of chess federations of the member states of the Chess Association of Turkic-Speaking Countries. The statute of the association will be approved in the near future. The main goal is to expand ties between the Turkic-speaking countries in the field of chess and regularly implement joint projects.
