The U-20 European Wrestling Championship, held in Caorle, Italy, is approaching its conclusion.

Azerbaijan’s Vasif Baghirov, competing in the 57 kg weight category, claimed a hard-fought victory in the final against Georgia’s Nika Zangaladze. Trailing 5-6 at the end of the first period, the young athlete from the Ganja Wrestling School staged an impressive comeback in the second half, securing a 9-6 win. Having earned a silver medal at last year’s U-20 European Championship, Vasif Baghirov this time ascended to the top of the podium as European champion.

In the 79 kg category, debutant Muradkhan Omarov also faced a Georgian opponent, Davit Chechlashvili, in the final. However, unlike his teammate, Omarov was unable to overcome his rival, suffering a 0-10 defeat. As a result, the wrestler from the Shamakhi Wrestling School took home the silver medal.

Meanwhile, Ravan Musayev, competing in the 97 kg division, defeated Hungary’s Peter Sivnovski 7-0 in the consolation round but fell short in the bronze medal match, losing 0-6 to Russia’s Magomedgadji Magomedov.
