The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, has stated that the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Georgia marks a landmark milestone in the relations between the two nations, 1TV.ge reported.

As Botchorishvili noted, a visit of this magnitude from Uzbekistan to Georgia has not taken place in the last 23 years.

“Naturally, this is a historic opportunity to elevate relations between our countries to a brand-new level. We are discussing the signing of a strategic partnership agreement to further deepen and strengthen our cooperation across various fields. Uzbekistan is a rapidly growing nation in Central Asia, while Georgia plays a vital role for the region, particularly in the development of the Middle Corridor. This is, of course, one of the key areas that will feature prominently in our bilateral relations. In tandem, a business forum is being held, bringing together representatives from the business sectors of both nations, which should significantly bolster practical ties between our countries,” Maka Botchorishvili stated.

For context, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in Georgia today on a state visit, accompanied by an official delegation.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, President Mirziyoyev is scheduled to meet with Mikheil Kavelashvili, the President of Georgia, and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding across various sectors will be signed during the visit. Furthermore, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan will lay a wreath at the Memorial to the Heroes Who Fell for the Unity of Georgia and will attend the unveiling ceremony of a monument dedicated to the poet Alisher Navoi.
