A total of 83 Nepalis were killed and 599 others injured in attacks by wild animals in the first five months of the current 2024-25 fiscal year, Xinhua reports citing the Nepal Police.
Snake bites alone left 70 dead and 532 wounded from mid-July to mid-December in 2024, the Nepal Police said in a statement.
Six people died and 14 were injured in elephant attacks, while rhinoceros attacks claimed four lives and injured 14 others.
In addition, assaults by tigers left three dead and 24 wounded, and 15 others were injured in bear attacks.
"Nepal Police mobilized 1,835 personnel for the rescue of the victims," the statement noted.
