The Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) of SOCAR hosted a commemorative event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. The participants of the event honored with a minute of silence the cherished memory of the Shehids who died during the bloody January tragedy.
Speaking at the commemorative event, Vice-Rector for General Affairs Babek Mammadov noted that the January 20 tragedy is the embodiment of heroism and national will shown by our people on the way to freedom and independence. He emphasized that this tragedy was written in golden letters in the history of our people.
In her speech, Zarifa Agaverdiyeva, wife of Shehid Aslan Agaverdiyev, noted that the self-sacrifice shown by the Shehids on January 20 have left a deep mark on the heart of every Azerbaijani. She emphasized that by giving their lives for the Motherland, the Shehids laid the foundation for the ideals of freedom and independence.
Speaking at the event, Head of Business Administration Department, Associate Professor Altay Ismayilov noted that the events of January 20 are a symbol of the national will of the Azerbaijani people. He stressed that this Day is of great importance in fostering the spirit of patriotism in the younger generation.
The event concluded with a screening of the documentary “The Next Station is 20 January.”
