Geneva hosts International Day of Nowruz

An event marking the International Day of Nowruz has been held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The event was, co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye and Turkmenistan, as well as the World Intellectual Property Organization, brought together permanent representatives of the countries accredited to the UN in Geneva and other members of the diplomatic corps, employees of UN institutions, officials of the city of Geneva and diaspora representatives of the organizing countries in Geneva

Addressing the event, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN Office and other international Organizations in Geneva, as the coordinator of the International highlighted the history and importance of the ancient holiday. He described Nowruz traditions as integral part of the world cultural heritage, adding that they made a special contribution to world culture and art.

Nowruz holiday was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. And, in 2010, the “International Day of Nowruz” was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. Since then, the International Day of Nowruz has been celebrated at the UN, Geneva.

The participants enjoyed watching photo and videos highlighting the history, culture, and art of the organizing countries. They also had the opportunity to taste national cuisine samples.
