Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met Thursday with América Valentina Pérez Dávila, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and head of the Venezuela-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group.
During the meeting, both sides hailed the existing bilateral and multilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Venezuela, emphasizing the potential for further cooperation. Noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, they highlighted ample opportunities for further strengthening their bonds.
The sides emphasized the special role of reciprocal visits in exploring future prospects between the two nations.
Noting the fruitful collaboration within international organizations, the parties lauded their cooperation and mutual support within the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement.
Valentina Pérez Dávila underscored that her country attaches great importance to its relations with Azerbaijan.
Both sides also highlighted the crucial role of interparliamentary cooperation in enhancing relations between the two countries, emphasizing the vital role played by the Azerbaijan-Venezuela interparliamentary friendship groups.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova described the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established at the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, as one of the vital mechanisms for expanding cooperation between the legislative authorities of the two countries. She also highlighted the activities of the Parliamentary Network.
The meeting also focused on climate change and its consequences. In turn, Valentina Pérez Dávila congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting such a major global event as COP29.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis also provided insights into the situation in the region following Azerbaijan's liberation of its lands from occupation, restoring its sovereignty.
The meeting also addressed other issues of mutual interest.
