Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, announced that more than 80,000 Pakistani citizens visited Azerbaijan last year, highlighting the growing ties and people-to-people connections between the two nations.
Speaking at an event organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the ambassador emphasized Azerbaijan’s strategic position as a key international transport corridor between Asia and Europe. He noted that Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) currently operate direct flights to Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
Ambassador Farhadov also revealed plans to establish the Azerbaijan Trade Center in Lahore, which, along with the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, aims to strengthen business relationships and foster mutual cooperation.
Highlighting the respect and affection Azerbaijan holds for the Pakistani nation, the ambassador stressed his country's commitment to enhancing bilateral ties. He mentioned the duty-free access granted to Pakistani rice until 2027, encouraging traders, particularly from Punjab, to leverage this opportunity given the province's reputation for producing high-quality Basmati rice.
Ambassador Farhadov noted the substantial growth in bilateral trade volume, which has tripled since 2022, and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to facilitating Pakistani traders seeking opportunities in Azerbaijan. He also referenced the $2 billion investment commitment made during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Pakistan in July 2024, with ongoing efforts to realize these projects.
