London-based media project airs interview with Azerbaijani ambassador

London-based English Speaking Union’s “The New Forum” media project has broadcast an extensive interview with Azerbaijani Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Elin Suleymanov on the eve of the Restoration of Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.

An interview-based discussion forum hosted by Charlie Day, and distributed on social media, aims to explore highly successful people and issues that are important to them, from the worlds of politics, economics and current affairs.

In his interview, Ambassador Elin Suleymanov touched upon the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence, the challenges faced by the Azerbaijani people during the first years of independence, as well as Armenia’s military aggression.

The diplomat informed the audience about bringing stability to Azerbaijan with the return to power of Heydar Aliyev, National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, which also paved the way to laying solid foundations for economic development, statehood and independence.

The ambassador emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev's far-sighted policy, strategic vision, fulfillment of his promises, his outstanding leadership qualities, and invaluable services in the development of the country have earned him the trust of the Azerbaijani people. He said that thanks to the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and the full restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country had been ensured.

 

Elin Suleymanov also provided insights into Azerbaijan’s becoming a leading country in the region, the country's role in ensuring Europe's energy security, it’s chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is the second largest international organization after the United Nations, as well as hosting of major global events in the country.

The ambassador shed the light on Azerbaijan's preparations for hosting another prestigious event – the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), set take place in Baku next month, as well as the initiatives put forward by the country in this regard. He also pointed out the establishment of the Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF), the COP Truce appeal and initiatives related to Small Island States. He underscored Azerbaijan's efforts to bring the world community to a consensus on achieving the climate finance goals set within the framework of COP29.

Ambassador Suleymanov also mentioned about the peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, noting that Azerbaijan extended a hand of peace to Armenia for the future development and stability of the region following the liberation of its lands from occupation.

Emphasizing that the peace negotiations are currently ongoing, with a certain part of the borders between the two countries has already been demarcated, the diplomat reiterated the principled position that Azerbaijan has put forward for the achievement of lasting peace.
