Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chairman of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, expressed his country’s interest in enhancing ties with Azerbaijan, saying that the country attaches special importance to these relations as he met with Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, in Geneva, Switzerland.
He urged to make an extensive use of opportunities for economic cooperation, transport, and regional communication, pointing out the importance of cooperation in the 3+3 format.
The Azerbaijani parliamentary speaker emphasized that both countries and peoples share common historical, cultural and religious values, highlighting the development of relations across various domains.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said Azerbaijan places great emphasis on ensuring peace, security and cooperation in the region, with the country pursuing a peaceful policy.
The sides noted the fruitful bilateral cooperation between the two countries’ legislative authorities within several international parliamentary organizations.
The discussions also revolved around the Parliamentary Conference to be held on the margins of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan this November. The sides also stressed the significance of the parliamentary collaboration in multilateral platforms with respect to climate change.
During the conversation, the two also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
