This was one of the most important political events in Azerbaijan, said Russian State Duma deputy Alexander Terentyev, commenting on the snap parliamentary elections held in the country, Report informs.

"This event will show us what vector of development Azerbaijan will choose in the future," Terentyev noted.

He said that Russia is pleased that Azerbaijan is pursuing an independent policy.

"We are fascinated by the fact that Azerbaijan is pursuing a sovereign and independent policy for the benefit of its people. Many countries face outside influence in elections. We are glad that Azerbaijan held a strong election campaign, this shows the satisfaction of the Azerbaijani people with the political course that the country's government has chosen," he noted.

The deputy also reminded that Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tatarstan, which he represents, are linked by strong ties.

Terentyev noted that the elections were successful.

"Visiting the polling stations, we saw a very friendly atmosphere. In legal terms, these were successful elections," he summed up.
