Remains of 13 more people found in mass grave discovered in Khojaly

“As previously reported, the discovery of buried mass human remains during evacuation curried out as part of large-scale restoration and construction in the center of the liberated city of Khojaly (not far from the former carpet factory) is being investigated by the Department of Criminalistics and Information Technology of the General Prosecutor’s Office,” the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office told AZERTAC.

“As a result of an inspection carried out in the specified area, the remains of 3 more people were discovered. Thus, the realized human remains belong to at least 13 individuals who were subjected to various methods of torture, inhuman treatment and physical violence, their hands were tied with ropes, they were not buried individually and according to the requirements of their religion.

 

At present, in order to fully identify the human remains buried in the area, Prosecutor Genaral's Office , State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, the Public Legal Entity , the State Commission of the Ministry of Health “Forensic-Medical Expertise and Pathological Anatomy Association", the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) take the case in the appropriate manner, as well as other necessary procedural actions were performed.

 

Further updates on the progress will be provided to the public,” the Prosecutor General's Office added.
