About 80,000 observers have registered for the snap presidential elections, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, told journalists on January 29, Report informs.
He said that there are more than 6,300 polling stations in the country: "Each station has up to 15 observers. The main goal is for the observers to be active and have the authority to intervene in certain issues."
Panahov said that the number of international observers is near 800. According to him, the observers represent OSCE, CIS, and other international organizations: "There are representatives of embassies of foreign countries in Azerbaijan, as well as heads and representatives of commissions invited by the CEC."
The chairman of the CEC noted that the preparations for the presidential elections in Lachin, Shusha, and other liberated territories have been completed: "We consider it important that international organizations conduct good monitoring. We would especially like the long-term mission of the OSCE to monitor the process in the liberated territories. The duty of the OSCE should be to conduct strict observation in the liberated territories. Because you know, we call these elections victory elections. We all need to be proactive."
