Europe will only benefit if a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is signed soon, Azerbaijani Presidential Representative for Special Assignments Elchin Amirbayov said in an interview with the Estonian public broadcasting ERR, Report informs.

He emphasized that if European countries cannot significantly help this, Azerbaijan expects that they, at a minimum, will not interfere with it.

According to Amirbayov, the European Union is not a single structure; the positions of individual EU countries negatively affect the process of achieving long-term peace in the South Caucasus region.

“I would like to appeal to the EU countries so that they support Azerbaijan’s desire to complete the peace process as soon as possible and agree on a peace treaty with Armenia. This will allow us to turn this page of hostility and the entire South Caucasus to gradually begin a normal life, when all three countries will be good neighbors. And I would like to ask to refrain from any actions and statements that may harm this prospect. Unfortunately, the European Union is not yet a completely unified structure, and we see how the positions of individual countries negatively affect the process of achieving a long-term, just peace in the South Caucasus,” he added.

The EU should be happy if there were no prospects for new wars in its immediate neighborhood, namely in the South Caucasus, Amirbayov emphasized.
