The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) mission to observe the presidential elections in Azerbaijan has begun its activities, the head of the OSCE/ODIHR mission, Eoghan Murphy, said at a press conference in Baku.

Report informs that, according to him, the observation mission includes 11 international experts from nine OSCE member countries, 280 members of a short-term mission who will observe the electoral process on election day, and 26 observers of a long-term mission who will arrive in the country on January 3.

"Our role is solely to monitor the election process. We will present an interim report two weeks before the Election Day. And the day after the election, February 8, we will hold a press conference on the results of our observation," Murphy said.

"We have already met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and introduced our team. In turn, the Azerbaijani side greeted us very well," he added.

The head of the mission emphasized that the OSCE has already observed elections in Azerbaijan 12 times, the previous time being the parliamentary elections held in 2020.
