A map of Armenia's mining industry will be released for the first time in 2024, and it will show the whole world how these enterprises pose a great threat to the ecology of the region, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Cartographers Public Union, Mugabil Bayramov, said, Report informs.

He said that the project would be the first work of his NGO: "I have been engaged in professional cartography work for almost 40 years. In the summer of this year, President Ilham Aliyev explained in detail the threat posed by Armenia's mining industry enterprises to the ecological environment of the region and spoke about the importance of conveying this to the world. This idea also arose after that speech. I have put all my strength into making this map."

The chairman emphasized that the map will be published in three languages: Azerbaijani, English, and Armenian. All names will be given with the national toponyms, oronyms, and hydronyms of Azerbaijan.

"2024 is the year of COP29, so we will also present this map to foreign NGOs coming to Azerbaijan to make it clearer to them the threat posed by Armenia's mining industry enterprises to the ecology of the South Caucasus. We investigated, and Armenia has not published such a map. It seems that they are trying to hide the location of the enterprises from the international community. I think that when Armenian society gets acquainted with the location of these enterprises on the map, many issues will be revealed. We have collected all the information. Armenian NGOs are also sounding the alarm about the activity of the mining industry in their country in recent years, which does not adhere to any environmental norms. This map will be interesting for them too."

Bayramov added that the Azerbaijan Cartographers Public Union will conduct systematic work on the areas where maps are most needed, and the public will get acquainted with new maps.
