International Court of Justice rejects 7 out of 10 Armenian claims against Azerbaijan

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has rejected 7 out of 10 claims of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

The Court’s ruling has reconfirmed Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, rightfully rejecting Armenia’s request that challenged Azerbaijan’s long-acknowledged and internationally recognized sovereignty over Garabagh. It is also noteworthy that the Court has also rejected Armenia’s baseless and ludicrous request for withdrawal of all military and law-enforcement personnel by Azerbaijan from the Garabagh region.

The measures indicated by the Court acknowledged the already declared policy of the Government of Azerbaijan with respect to the Armenian residents of Garabagh. This includes Azerbaijan’s undertaking to ensure all residents’ safety and security, regardless of national or ethnic origin.

Moreover, the Court ordered no measure related to the request by Armenia to facilitate the UN agencies access to the Garabagh region and cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), thus making all the accusations against Azerbaijan regarding the entry to the region groundless.

The Court's rejection of Armenia's claims regarding cultural sites and artefacts is an assertion of the positive measures implemented by Azerbaijan.

The Court equally did not warrant Armenia’s request related Azerbaijan’s investigative actions with regard to persons associated with the illegal separatist regime.

Armenia’s accusation about Azerbaijan breaching its obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is yet another claim rejected by ICJ.
