“The scale of drug trafficking in Armenia continues to increase, and the situation is becoming threatening,” MP from the opposition bloc "Armenia" Agnessa Hamoyan said at a meeting of the National Assembly, XQ informs.
Despite the terrible statistics, a new strategy to combat drug trafficking is still not ready, and the current one was adopted back in 2014.
“Despite certain steps by the police, the dynamic growth in drug trafficking has continued over the past 5 years. In the first 10 months of 2023, 3,934 crimes related to this were recorded. The figure for the same period last year was 1,631. The year-to-year growth reached 141%. And these are only the known cases,” Hamoyan said.
In January-September 2023, Armenia’s law enforcement agencies seized about 110 kg of drugs. In 2022, this figure was only 69 kg.
