The first joint heart and liver transplant has been carried out at Turin's Molinette Hospital on a 38-year-old patient with a heart condition who had previously gone through multiple heart surgeries, according to ANSA.
No such joint transplant has been previously reported in Italy and in Europe and there are just a few known cases in the United States.
The patient, who is from Rome, was on a waiting list for an urgent transplant due to her critical condition, which is managed by the National Transplant Centre, in cooperation with Piedmont's regional centre
