Taking into account the epidemiological situation, the vaccine (Measles-Mumps-Mumps) will be applied for vaccination of the middle-aged and elderly population in the country.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health.

It was noted that since 2015, the elimination of measles and rubella diseases in Azerbaijan has been officially announced by the World Health Organization (the absence of endemic cases in the country):

"Despite the fact that 2 small-scale outbreaks of measles infection were recorded in the country during the past years (in 2014 and 2018), these outbreaks were stopped for a short time as a result of the implemented anti-epidemic and preventive measures."

According to the Ministry, since April 2023, cases of sporadic spread of the disease among the population have been registered in connection with cases of measles imported from neighboring countries: "The infection is mainly observed among children.

Epidemiological analysis of the cases shows that vaccination evasion is the main cause of infection. In most cases, this is explained by unreasonable contraindications and refusal of vaccination. Thus, 95% of infected patients are children who did not receive their vaccinations according to the preventive vaccination schedule. In connection with the situation, taking into account the more favorable environment for the spread of airborne infections as a result of close contact of children in organized collectives (especially boarding schools), closed institutions (orphanages, sanatoriums), preventive vaccination work has been strengthened by medical institutions throughout the country. At the same time, control over the active detection of children excluded from vaccinations due to their age and involvement in urgent vaccination has been increased.
