On June 23, the "World Heritage Transhumance Initiative: International Experts Conference" officially opened in Baku, organized jointly by Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
According to the State Tourism Agency, the event brought together specialists from international organizations, including the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ICOMOS, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Experts from the USA, China, the United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Türkiye, France, Montenegro, Kenya, Ghana, Benin, South Africa, Uzbekistan, and Georgia participated, alongside scientists from research institutes and universities, as well as local experts.
The conference, which will continue until June 25, aims to study the nomadic cultural landscapes existing in various regions worldwide, discuss the preservation of this heritage, and address the development of their sustainable tourism potential in the context of climate change and socio-economic transformations.
