Representatives from the Baku Puppet Theatre will participate in the 2nd International "DEMMENIFEST - 2025" Puppet Theater Festival, scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 10-16.
Organized by the Saint Petersburg Demmeni Marionette Theatre, the festival brings together puppeteers from around the world. This year's event, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, will be held under the motto "The World is in Our Hands.”
Azerbaijani puppeteers will present their latest production, "The Jujube Tree," at the festival. The performance honors Hazi Aslanov, the only Azerbaijani who was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
This one-act puppet performance, based on Sevinj Nurugizi's play of the same name, features the "black theatre" style.
Anar Mammadov, chief director of the Baku Puppet Theatre, directed and staged the performance, with set design by Iqbal Aliyev.
