Elkhan Nasibov, an influential Azerbaijani professional, Director, Chief Compliance Officer and MLRO at Guavapay, has made history as the first Azerbaijani citizen to receive the esteemed “Freedom of the City of London” award.

This prestigious honor places Nasibov among an exclusive group of individuals whose exceptional contributions have had a lasting impact on their industries.

Dating back to 1237, the Freedom of the City of London is one of the city’s oldest and most celebrated honors, reserved for those who have demonstrated remarkable success and influence. For centuries, this title has been awarded to a select few, including global icons like Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, as well as innovators such as Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the World Wide Web, and physicist Stephen Hawking.

Nasibov now joins this prestigious lineage, recognized for his pioneering role in fintech and commitment to accessible, secure global financial services.

The ceremony, held on October 29, 2024, took place in the Chamberlain’s Court at Guildhall and was conducted by the Clerk. The event was graced by the presence of the newly elected Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alastair King, whose attendance underscored the significance of this award. This rare recognition is a tribute to Elkhan Nasibov’s leadership in compliance and finance and to the growing influence of Azerbaijani professionals on the world stage.
