Al-Malik: Shusha - symbol of Islamic heritage and culture

ICESCO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, plans to organize several cultural events in Shusha, the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024, ISESCO Director-General Salim bin Muhammad al-Malik told Report.

“On May 11, we celebrated the election of the city of Shusha as the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024 in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. This is a truly special day that will forever remain in the history of not only the city of Shusha and Karabakh, but also the entire Islamic world. Because Shusha is a symbol of Islamic heritage, culture and history,” he said.

Al-Malik emphasized that ICESCO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, intends to organize several cultural events in Shusha during this year: “Events might also be organized In other cities of Azerbaijan in honor of Shusha’s election as the cultural capital of the Islamic world, since Shusha represents Azerbaijan.”
