Azerbaijan to commission 12 energy facilities in Karabakh and East Zangazur in 2024

In 2023, Azerenerji OJSC inaugurated substations and hydropower plants in 12 locations in Azerbaijan`s liberated territories, Azerenerji told AZERTAC.

 

Azerenerji OJSC has announced plans to put another 12 hydropower plants into operation in 2024.

 

With the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, the 330 kV "Jabrayil" junction substation, a part of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe international energy corridor project, was inaugurated.

 

Aligned with the green energy strategy, small hydropower plants, including "Chirag-1" with a capacity of 8.33 MW, "Chirag-2" with a capacity of 3.6 MW, "Gamishli" with a capacity of 6.33 MW, "Soyugbulag" with a capacity of 5.3 MW, and "Meydan" with a capacity of 3.4 MW were inaugurated after reconstruction in the Kalbajar district.

 

Additionally, Azerenerji opened the newly built 110 kV Gorchu substation in Lachin and the "Lachin" city hub substation in 2023. Simultaneously, the 8.25 MW Mishni and 6 MW Alkhasli small hydroelectric power plants in the Lachin district were reconstructed and put into operation. President Ilham Aliyev also attended the opening of the newly built 10.5 MW Jahangirbayli HPP of Azerenerji OJSC. The Aghdam 110 kV nodal substation was inaugurated in December.

 

Certainly, one of the most significant events of 2023 was the swift reconnection of Khankendi and other districts to Azerbaijan`s electricity grid, accomplished just four days after the anti-terrorist measures conducted on September 19-20.

 

In total, the construction of Azerenerji's nine power plants began in the liberated territories in 2023. Currently, including these nine plants, the construction of hydroelectric power plants in 12 locations in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, producing environmentally friendly green energy, is underway, with several of them completed. These 12 stations are expected to be operational in 2024.
