Nuri Sahin (35, previously head of football at Turkish top-tier club Antalyaspor) and Sven Bender (34, previously assistant coach of the Germany U17 national team) will serve as assistant coaches to head coach of Borussia Dortmund Edin Terzic, 41, from 1 January, according to the official website of the club.

Both have signed a contract until 30 June 2025. Assistant coach Armin Reutershahn, 63, is stepping down at his own request.

"We have conducted a thorough analysis of how the season has progressed so far. One of our shared conclusions was that we wanted to give new impetus to the coaching staff. In Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender, we are gaining two experts and personalities who will enrich us with their different experiences and qualities, both in terms of content and character. We are convinced that the two will make us stronger as a team as we look to achieve our goals in the second half of the season," said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Both Sahin (274 competitive appearances and 26 goals for BVB) and Bender (224 appearances and four goals) spent a large part of their playing careers in Dortmund, where they won the Bundesliga title together in 2011 and then the DFB-Pokal as teammates in 2017.

"It was my clear desire to get Nuri and Sven on board as assistant coaches. We have made several attempts in the past to turn this wish into reality. Now we had the opportunity - and we have made it happen. Nuri and Sven will enrich us with their experience and knowledge, and at the same time they can grow with us as young coaches. I'm extremely happy to have both of them by my side," says coach Edin Terzic.
