Azerbaijan has voiced concerns about the impact of landmines on persons with disabilities during the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.

According to Report, the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the UN Office in Geneva highlighted the government’s commitment to integrating women with disabilities into society through social protection programs, rehabilitation initiatives, and professional development opportunities, particularly in rural areas.

Azerbaijan also expressed deep concern over the high level of mine contamination on its territory, emphasizing that a significant portion of the population continues to suffer due to mines planted by Armenian forces in formerly occupied regions.

"Landmine contamination and Armenia’s refusal to provide accurate maps of mined areas continue to claim lives and cause severe injuries, including among women and children," the statement read.

Baku urged the international community to support demining efforts and called on the UN Special Rapporteur to address the issue of landmine victims.

Additionally, Azerbaijan expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan for its cooperation with the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and commended the country’s efforts in protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.
